Of Gods and Men (Beauvois, 2010)

Of Gods and Men tells the tale of a monastery of Trappist monks caught up in a terrorist incident in Algeria in 1996. The film is one of contrasts peace and violence, islam and christianity, self-preservation and martyrdom, relgion and the secular, quiet and loud. The film is full of heart-stopping images such as when the monks worship as the helicoptors fly overhead, their quiet meditation punctuated by the sound of oncoming violence.
